Elderly Jacksonville Woman Safe After Days Without Power

On Tuesday, December 28, JCSO Deputies responded to a welfare check at the 7000 block of Griffin Lane in Jacksonville, Ore.

A family member called because his 75-year-old sister was living alone and he had not been able to get ahold of her since Christmas day. The caller was concerned because she had over a foot of snow at her house then.

Deputies responded to the location and the driveway was covered with about 18 inches of snow. Deputies were able to drive to the house and found her safe but without power and heat for the last two days. She tried to leave but the snow was too deep to get her car out of the garage. Deputies than gave her a ride to a Medford Hotel.

This story ended without tragedy thanks to her brother’s concerns and the persistence of the deputies and dispatchers involved.

During this winter season reach out to your loved ones, especially those experiencing heavy snowfall and below freezing temperatures, and call Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon dispatch at (541) 776-7206 if you need to arrange a welfare check.
