“Suspicious Male” on NMHS Property Prompted SECURE Protocol

This is an update to our previous article regarding this incident.

On May 11, 2023 at approximately 2:10 p.m., a maintenance employee at North Medford High School observed a suspicious male on the property. The male was not inside the gated area of the school, and it was believed he may have been experiencing a mental health issue.

The NMHS School Resource Officer (SRO) placed the school in “SECURE” while he searched the area for the subject. Multiple SROs responded to NMHS to assist. It was confirmed the male left the campus and never made access inside the gated area. The SRO is still working to identify the male, who faces trespass charges upon contact.

The school was in “SECURE” for about 15 minutes until the incident resolved. As a part of this protocol, students are moved indoors, all exterior doors are locked, and the students and staff continue business as usual inside.

The Medford Police Department says they appreciate their partnership with the Medford School District and the continued efforts to maintain a safe environment for all students.
