White City Area Safety “Enforcement Blitz” Cites Dozens

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and other local law enforcement agencies participated in an enforcement blitz yesterday in the White City area.

From 7 a.m. to noon, participating law enforcement agencies issued 72 citations, 86 warnings, and made two arrests.

Although the blitz focused on distracted driving such as cell phone use, citations also came from speeding, equipment violations, and seat belt use.

The two arrests were for driving while suspended, and a hit-and-run.

The participating agencies were JCSO, Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, and Phoenix Oregon Police Department Police.

The blitz was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to spread awareness on the dangers of distracted driving.

In Oregon, between 2016-2020, there were 15,538 crashes involving a distracted driver resulting in 186 fatalities and 24,126 injuries.
