Good Viewing Weather Expected for Sunday’s Lunar Eclipse

On May 15th, the sun, moon and Earth will align Sunday night for a total lunar eclipse. This event occurs when the Earth moves into place between the sun and the full moon. As a result, the Earth casts a giant shadow across the lunar surface, giving the moon a striking reddish hue — which is why lunar eclipses are also referred to as blood moons. The next expected chance to witness a similar event is November 8th, 2022.

Currently, the National Weather Service office in Medford has good news for those wanting to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon. The weather forecast calls for mostly clear skies for much of the evening on Sunday. There are isolated clouds possible, however.

We here at Medford Alert are inviting all who snap some pictures of the Blood Moon, to send them into us and we will gladly share your work with credit.
