Officer Involved Shooting in Southwest Medford

On April 2nd, 2022, at 4:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2100 block of Martin Drive, Medford, for a domestic disturbance. The caller reported a male was outside the residence, associated with a vehicle. He was possibly under the influence and threatening to commit suicide by firearm.

Area of incident

When officers arrived on scene, the subject was gone, and officers began checking the area. At 4:55 a.m., the male returned in a vehicle, and officers stopped him on Archer Drive, near Martin Drive. The male suspect exited the vehicle with a gun to his head. Shortly thereafter, the suspect fired the gun and at least one officer on scene fired in response. No officers were hit, and the suspect sustained a non life threatening gunshot wound.

The suspect is in stable condition at a local hospital. The Jackson County Sheriffs Office is the lead agency on the investigation, and is assisted by the Oregon State Police and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

Additional information will be released by either the Jackson County Sheriffs Office or the District Attorney’s Office, as the investigation unfolds.
