A Winston man was arrested Tuesday following a single vehicle crash which resulted in two children being injured.
On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at approximately 3:45 p.m., dispatchers received information of a single vehicle crash with injuries in the 12000-block of Old Highway 99 South in Dillard.
Deputies arrived to discover a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier which had crashed into a ditch. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Darrion Thomas Allen of Winston, showed visible signs of impairment at the scene. Allen told deputies he had swerved to miss a dog in the road.
Two children, ages four and two, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash; both of which were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation. One of the children was later released and the other was admitted due to their injuries.
Deputies applied for a search warrant to collect evidence from the person for Darrion Allen. He was later lodged in the Douglas County Jail on the following charges:
- Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants
- Assault III (Felony)
- Assault IV
- Reckless Driving
- Reckless Endangering x2
