After the $36 million North Medford Interchange modernization project finished in 2006, there was one odd shaped parcel of land left. The initial 2004 ODOT construction project widened the bridges on Biddle Road and OR62 while also adding a westbound 62 on and off-ramp to Biddle Rd. The Bullock and Poplar Drive intersection was reconstructed and a new signal was installed for both the Fred Meyer and Poplar Square areas. That created the odd, current day, 5 acre site with little access. Completely surrounded by a state highway, off-ramp, and backed up to an existing body shop.
Now after years of sitting idle, the empty site may be getting nearly 200 new hotel rooms. Developers will soon lay out their vision, to city planners, that will take up the entire 4.69 acre area.
Two separate, four story hotels are planned. The first hotel will be 95 rooms and stand approximately 60 ft tall. The second hotel will have 98 rooms and be slightly shorter at 55 ft.
City officials also plan on upgrading the stretch of Bullock Rd in that area, that acts as a secondary entrance and exit to the Medford Airport (MFR). These hotels will provide MFR travelers more close-by options for lodging, along with being near the growing Rogue Valley Expressway corridor.
The only access to the site will be off of Bullock Rd, and will be highly visible from the OR62 corridor.
Currently, there are no architectural designs available, or details on which brands the hotels will be. As the project marches through the city approval processes, we will update.
