Last night just before midnight, officers tried to stop a U-Haul pick up near the Winco shopping center.
The vehicle eluded into Talent and then back into downtown Medford. The truck was speeding through the allies and lost control after crossing 5th Street.
The vehicle crashed into the backside of Al’s Cycle and Hobby, causing a significant natural gas leak.
The suspect, Terrence Chavers, 32, was eventually taken into custody, after trying to light items in the truck on fire. Lucky for him, officers got to him before the gas did.
The area was temporarily evacuated until the gas leak could be repaired.
Chavers has been charged with several crimes
